MEDIA IMPERIALISM.

The documentary ; Title: The Power Of Nightmare (part 3-Shadow In The Cave) by Adam Curtis was shown in the class on Monday.How do you relate the information given to you in the documentary to the theory of media Imperialism that we discuss in lecturer class.

Definition of Media Imperialism: is a theory stating that similar countries are losing their identity due to the force feeding of media from larger nation.

Critical Reflection.

1)I have watched a video; The Power Of Nightmares at youtube. It's a documentary video and it was interesting, but a little bit complicated.From this documentary video, i gain an information that i did not know before this.The main idea of this documentary video is about Neo-Conservative movement in between the radical Islamic and America.America have their own strategy to make a smaller countries think about the ideology of terrorism.

Personal Reflection.

~This week,Madam Helena showed us a documentary video about "The Power of Nightmares".This video is a bit long video. It is also i kind of boring video to watch.But after i finished watch this video, i gain a lot of things that i don't know before.By the way, this video helped me to understand more about "Media Imperialsm".

Topic 6

Using McLuhan's "Tetrad Of Media" (see diagram below),choose a medium or media aplication or tool (e.g newspaper, books, radio, television, internet, film, computer games, handphone, instant messaging, blogging, online advertising, youtube, facebook, etc.) andd explain its media effects.

Critical Reflection.

1)I've decided to choose 'Television'.Television is an important form of communication and has been for many years.Many people own a television for many reason.From this type of media, we can have live information about the several events like sports and any other good or bad events happening on the globe.Television also provide a good channel for educational, scientific, historical and political programs which is very interesting and informative (e.g National Geographic, Discovery channel, History channel etc.) .We may get detailed news and information from television all the time.

2)I think, television got many usage.Security personnel also use televisions to monitor buildings, manufacturing plants, and numerous public facilities.It is very useful media in this era.But, television have a bad effects also.Not all programs or any show seen on TV are good. Selection of the right ones to watch is advisable. For health risks, TV emits radiation.Too much radiation that the body absorbs is as we all know BAD and may end up to a more serious diseases. Not to mention the eye problems also people get.

Personal Reflection

~In this week Media Culture class, lecturer gave us an explanation about the topic "The Extansion Of Man" .Lecturer gave an information about Mcluhan's theory. Besides, i've learn about hot and cold of media which combine with the Tetrad of media. This is very interesting topic, but its a bit complicated. By the way, i've enjoyed learning this topic.

The meaning and differences between Obscenity ,Pornography ,and Indecency.

Obscenity is a term that is most often used in a legal context to describe expressions (words, images, actions) that offend the prevalent sexual morality of the time. It is often replaced by the word salaciousness.
Pornography or porn is the explicit depiction of sexual subject matter with the sole intention of sexually exciting the viewer. It is to a certain extent similar to erotica, which is the use of sexually arousing imagery.Pornography may use any of a variety of media—printed literature, photos ,sculpture ,drawing ,painting ,animation ,sound recording ,film ,video ,or video game.However ,when sexual acts are performed for a live audience, by definition it is not pornography, as the term applies to the depiction of the act, rather than the act itself.
Indecency is the quality or state of being indecent ; want of decency, modesty, or good manners.Its also can describe as obscenity.
Those things are different because obscenity is considered as nauseating ,fetid or morally unhealthy.Pornography is pertaining to depiction of sexual immorality or erotic behaviour.

Critical Reflection

As for now,all those things can be found in many types of media.For example,television ,magazines ,internet ,and photos.It is because,the director of those media can increase the viewer for their product.But those illegal things is a bad influences for a child or teenagers.
Although,Obscenity,Pornography ,and Indecency is a bad thing to watch.Kids will act the same things before before their matured or getting married.

Reflection In Class(MLC)

This week,i didn't learn much thing.It is because ,the lecturer gave some briefing about our second assignment.

MEDIA LITERACY

Media literacy is the process of accessing, analyzing, evaluating and creating messages in a wide variety of media modes, genres and forms. It uses an inquiry-based instructional model that encourages people to ask questions about what they watch, see, and read. Media literacy education provides tools to help people critically analyze messages to detect propaganda,censorship and bias in news and public affairs programming (and the reasons for such), and to understand how structural features *such as ,media ownership,Media literacy or its funding model affect the information presented.Media literacy is an expanded conceptualization of literacy. By transforming the process of media consumption into an active and critical process, people gain greater awareness of the potential for misrepresentation and manipulation (especially through commercials and public relations techniques), and understand the role of mass media and participatory media in constructing views of reality.(from;wikipedia)

SOSIAL MEDIA IN PLAIN ENGLISH

From this video,i've find out my own opinion......

I think social media would consist of one flavor, and one flavor only. If other flavors came along, the people would reject it. After years and years of having the one flavor, other flavors wouldn't seem tasty, no matter how it was rated from people in other towns.In theory,that's how it works.In practice, everything falls apart (mostly due to the content, and the people, there's nothing really wrong with the system). However, as you can see with politics being a prime (but not the only) example, the Social (alternative) media is not left alone by those in power.
